Plainfield Grand Rogue Historical Society

Dr. William Hyser served many roles in the house he built in 1852: in addition to country doctor, he was a Captain in the 6th Michigan Cavalry during the Civil War, Justice of the Peace, school inspector and Township Clerk. His home served at one time as a stagecoach stop and post office. In 1973, Plainfield Township re-purposed this last home of the original Plainfield Village and other historical artifacts as a public museum operated by the township Historical Commission. Fifty years later, in 2023, the nonprofit Plainfield Grand Rogue Historical Society assumed this mission. Special museum tours can be arranged and schools are encouraged to learn of the historical resources we have for teachers and students.

6440 West River Road, Belmont, MI 49306
The museum is open the first Sundays May thru Dec. (except holiday weekends) 2 to 4:30 pm.
